Jie-Wei Zhou was born in Shanghai, Peoples Republic of China in 1962. He is an award-winning painter who now resides in the United States. Mr. Zhou was one of the few allowed to pursue a formal art education in China. Only 10 out of 1000 applicants were chosen.
He received a Bachelor of Arts degrees from Shanghai Normal Institute and a coveted Master of Fine Arts degree from the Shanghai Drama Institute. Having studied under great Russian and French Impressionists in China, Mr. Zhou has a superior level of artistic training and skill. His sense of color is superb.
He paints portraits and impressions of China in a realistic European style. Many of his paintings portray the tribal peoples of China, Mongolia and Tibet. In addition, his still life and Chinese landscape paintings are works produced with an intimate knowledge of the subject matter. Two of his favorite models are his wife Jin and his daughter Amy.
Mr. Zhou has participated in numerous successful shows and his art can be found in collections throughout the world.
